Dear Teachers-
You’ll find that Sunny’s Adventures, a children’s mystery book, can be used as an educational picture book for your early readers. This children’s mystery book shows how the junior detective is able to successfully solve five various mysteries just by using her mind. She thinks first and acts second in an effort to solve problems and find solutions to them. The main character in this kid’s book is Sunny and she’s always looking to help others and this willingness to get involved always saves the day! Reading in the classroom will take on a new meaning as kids get to go through the investigative process right along with Sunny.
Word Scramble
Children can unscramble some of the words from the Sunny’s Adventures mystery book story. Upon successfully unscrambling the words, they will uncover a complete message pertaining to the story book. Download here.
"Clue Sheet"
After reading in the classroom, give the students a Sunny’s Adventures mystery book clue sheet which can be downloaded here. As each story is read, the children can write down the various clues that were discovered before you go over the Q&A section provided in each chapter of the book. As you’re reading the story, you can pause for effect giving them a hint as to when a clue has been uncovered. Clues average from 2-3 per story.
Discuss Mysteries & Clues
Discussions can be formulated around each of the five mysteries after reading in the classroom. Children can be interactive in talking about how each case was solved. At the end of each chapter, there is a Q&A about what clues led to the mystery being uncovered. Open up the dialogue about how these clues were figured out.
Moral Lesson
In Sunny’s Adventures mystery book, Sunny is always willing to help others. This is the catalyst of how she ends up being involved in each adventure that she comes across. It always starts with her willingness to help others so discuss with the students how helping others can be beneficial for everyone and it’s also the right thing to do. Point out ways that Sunny helped others which ultimately helped her to solve the five cases. Have the student’s list ways in which they can be helpful to someone that they know in order to help them solve a problem. Challenge them to do at least one nice thing for someone else today.
Fun Time
Print out the free Coloring book pages and let the students color in the pictures and tell their own story of what is happening. They can be as creative as they want in coloring the picture and writing down their own version as to what’s taking place. This will give them a chance to think on
a creative level.
