Illustrations do matter in children’s picture books. Whether in black and white or color, the pictures and designs really help to tell the story for younger children. I think about when I’m reading a book to my daughter and I try to turn the page to continue reading the story. She will stop my hand midway from turning the page in the book just so she can get a longer glimpse at a picture that has captured her attention with its vivid illustrations.
The best illustrated children’s books are ones that compliment the words of the author and enhance the story as much as possible. Depending on whether it’s an early reader like Sunny’s Adventures, a children’s mystery book about a junior girl detective or a true picture book for little ones, the pictures may differ in importance.
I put together lists of the Top 25 Children’s Books list & the 25 Best Illustrated Children’s Books. I list some of the African American children’s books that I have come across. I compiled this list in order to promote these types of children’s books for all early readers. Of course, there are many African American children’s books out there so if you have any other books you’d like to suggest, please email the information to me and I will list those books as well in my monthly newsletter.
Don’t forget to view the list of the top illustrated children’s books and add Sunny’s Adventures to your child’s book collection.
