Picture Books Prove to Be Fun & Educational For Young Readers
There’s no doubt that picture books help to tell the story for children as they begin on their journey of reading – it actually serves as a great learning tool for them as well. Picture books literally paint a visual image for youngsters as they read about various characters and scenes in relationship to the stories.
With picture books, little one’s are able to use their imagination along with the actual written words they see on paper. This helps to vividly bring the characters to life and leaves a lasting impression in their minds even after the story is read.
In Sunny’s Adventures, a children’s mystery book, the black and white illustrations help to tell a story that is full of fun mysteries – it helps the action come alive right off of the pages of the book. Children will identify with the 8 year old character through the pictures that tell the story. As children mature, picture books become less of a necessity than what they were when they were younger. In the long run, this will help to increase their reading satisfaction and enjoyment. I put together a list of the best illustrated children’s books that I have seen out there. Even though these are my favorites there are surely many, many more. In my daughter’s words, “I don’t have to think, and think, and think about what the picture looks like. I can just see it right away.”
Picture books for children also make great holiday and birthday gifts. A book with no pictures and a great story may not excite younger readers as much. Books with good pictures like Sunny’s Adventures, a children’s mystery book, can be just as exciting as receiving a TOY. Maybe that’s pushing it a little bit, but at least it can come closer to it.
The point is that if children enjoy reading picture books from a very early age, they will grow up to be naturally avid book readers; even in books without pictures. You can use picture books for educational purposes by choosing ones that have the following:
- Learning features such as information about shapes, sounds, colors, alphabets, etc for very young children.
- For middle age readers, you can choose picture books that teach moral lessons, explore the importance of their bodies and being healthy, or that grow creativity and thinking skills in some way.
- Wonderful, clear illustrations make children naturally migrate towards the story and enhance their interest in the actual words that are being read.
Picture books like Sunny’s Adventures and a slew of others really help middle readers to learn valuable lessons in life that will stay with them forever.
